However, Professor Hu Sijie later found in his research that the Chinese Multiface Drill had not been widely adopted. Despite solving the issue of manufacturing, practical application was still constrained. Many companies had not invested in the grinding machines required for resharpening Chinese Multiface Drills. After abrasion, the drills had to be sent back to the supplier for regrinding, leading to both time and monetary costs.
“Chinese Multiface Drills are the result of collective wisdom. Applying Chinese Multiface Drill to the market, integrating it into people’s production and life, is upholding Mr. Ni’s spirit,” said Professor Hu, who took on the responsibility of establishing the National Efficient Grinding Engineering Technology Research Center in Shenzhen in 2005. In this international gateway of China, Professor Hu aimed to bring the years of research effort by Hunan University’s research team to the market. The establishment of Zhongke Golden-drill (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd. in 2019 marked a milestone in the transition to the 4.0 era of Chinese Multiface Drill, namely the Crown Drill.
Through in-depth research on drilling mechanisms, development of new drill types, and manufacturing of CNC drill tip grinding equipment, the high-performance interchangeable-tip drill – the Crown Drill – was unveiled through continuous exploration and repeated experiments by Zhongke Golden-drill’s research team. Precision calculations and model analyses strategically placed the best material only where the tip experiences the most stress, further reducing costs. Additionally, the Crown Drill series only requires replacing the drill tip blade after abrasion, enabling the reuse of the drill rod. “Just like Elon Musk’s rockets have low costs because boosters can be reused, the Crown Drill operates on a similar principle,” emphasized Professor Hu. The team’s design of high-precision positioning and locking methods ensured the precision and reliability of the connection between the Crown Drill blades and the rod.
Composite Drill
Regarding costs, Professor Hu emphasized the advantage of “drilling instead of reaming.” Traditional bore processing involves drilling, boring, and reaming to ensure precision. By optimizing drill parameters, using the Crown Drill means that multiple steps are streamlined into a single process, ensuring precision during drilling. Furthermore, catering to different processing conditions for various enterprises, Zhongke Golden-drill can provide personalized services, selecting different blade materials and drill types based on the processing material to configure the optimal combination parameters, ensuring customers get the highest possible cost-performance when using the drill.

“Easy to drill, You Need Golden-drill” is Zhongke Golden-drill’s slogan. After over 40 years of exploration, experiment, and fieldwork, Zhongke Golden-drill has eventually achieved fruitful results in overcoming “difficult drilling.”
